GLOSSARY

Immortalists; Immortalists are unique individuals with extraordinary powers over time. While most live the life of nomads, there are some who seek greater respect, and use their gifts to succeed and attain ranks of respect and power. There are also many who toe the line and live normal lives, using their magic in private, for their own gain. Every Immortalist has a different amount of control over time, and different beliefs and morals over that control. Their place in the world is known only for certain by themselves, and left for the rest of the world to believe and discredit as it wishes.

Magisters; Those with the utmost control over time. Eventually, they can learn to control every aspect of time, manipulating it around them. They can slow down and speed up time so effectively that they can make entire forests grow in mere minutes, or stop buildings from collapsing for centuries. Most importantly, they can control not only their own lifetime, but the lives of others. Some Magisters have presumably achieved perfect Immortality, while others have been able to keep from aging for hundreds of years. A Magister’s magic is performed in the mind, with no need for words or gestures.

Illusionists; Those who can control the most trivial moments in time: slowing and speeding the movement of inanimate objects and themselves for brief periods of time. Most Illusionists are considered as nothing more than magicians and performers, and live such lives either on the street or stage. Therefore, their performances range from vanishing acts to manipulating props. They are mostly harmless, save for the fact that their abilities can help them pick pockets rather easily, and others have been known to abuse their magic for other illegal and immoral activities. They usually travel together in troupes, or make names for themselves on stages. Their powers are easily learned, and performed with nothing more than simple words, gestures, and thoughts.

Tokens; An object carried by Immortalists that is affected by the lifetime they do not experience. The natural immortality of the object plays a role in how long an Immortalist will live, as the object ages in place of the Immortal. The Token must remain in the Immortalist’s possession (though not on their person) for the rest of their life, or the magic will be broken.
